Our golf tour of Kyushu starts in Miyazaki prefecture in the south of the island where we play three rounds of golf at Phoenix Country Club, UMK Country Club and Tom Watson Golf Course.
Phoenix Country Club
Holes 27 | Par 108 | Length 9618 m| Type Parkland | Architect Goukichi Ohashi
Host to the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament on the Japanese Tour for the past 49 years.
We will be playing the the Takachiho and Sumiyoshi circuits that comprise the premier 18-hole course tournament course.
Despite being close to the ocean, Phoenix Country Club plays like a parkland course and is relatively flat. Japanese pine trees line many of the fairways and are bound to attract your attention as the fairways are narrow.
A superbly presented course in every respect.
This is a walking course. Caddie included.
UMK Country Club
Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6436 m | Type Parkland | Architect Hisamitsu Onishi
The AXA Ladies Golf Tournament has been played at UMK Country Club since 2013.
The greens are often well protected by bunkers, with at least two surrounding each green.
The 9 holes going out have relatively wide fairways while the inbound 9 holes require more accurate shots.
Water comes into play on 6 of the holes.
The course is well maintained and the contrast of the white sand bunkers with the green of the fairways and greens is striking.
Shared cart and caddie included.
Tom Watson Golf Course
Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6412 m| Type Parkland | Architect Tom Watson
The course is relatively flat but the imagination and skill of Tom Watson has created an exceptional layout.
Carved from the native Japanese pine forest the course demands accuracy and length from the tee and nerves of steel for the approach shots.
Fairways are narrow, framed by Japanese pines with bunkers which always seem to be in play. The large greens are perfectly presented and are well-protected.
Bunkers are large and imposing, only adding to the already difficult layout of the course.
Shared cart included.
We play two rounds of golf in Kagoshima prefecture, at Ibusuki Golf Club and Kedoin Golf Club, and one round in Kumamoto prefecture at Kumamoto Kuko Country Club.
Ibusuki Golf Club
Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6,539 m | Type Parkland | Architect Seiichi Inoue
The scenic Kaimon course lies at the foot of the Satsumafuji Kaimon Mountain with views of Kagoshima Bay.
The fairways are wide and long, contoured with palm trees. The terrain is varied with tricky and deep bunkers.
The mountain wind 'Kaimon Oroshi', and the sea breeze 'Umikaze', compete to create challenging but enjoyable conditions.
Shared cart and caddie included.
Kedoin Golf Club
Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6441 m | Type Parkland | Architect Fujio Ishii
Kedoin is a strategic JPGA course. It has hosted the Japan Tour’s annual Token Homemate Cup since 1993.
The course’s 102 bunkers demand accurate play.
Fast and flawless greens add to the joy of playing this course which is bound to leave a vivid impression.
Shared cart and caddie included.
Kumamoto Kuko Country Club
Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6,427 m | Type Parkland | Architect Seizo Tomisawa
Host to the KKT Cup Vantelin Ladies Open, an annual tournament on the LPGA of Japan Tour. Kumamoto Kuko C.C. has held the event since 2013.
Located at the foot of the majestic Mount Aso, this course makes exquisite use of its terrain.
Cross bunkers abound and require skill and strategic planning to avoid.
Shared cart and caddie included.
Queen’s Hill Golf Club
Our last round of golf is played at Queen’s Hill Golf Club in Fukuoka.
Holes 18 | Par 72 | Length 6,492 m | Type Parkland | Architect Akira Hattori
Challenge yourself on a prestigious championship course with strategically arranged ponds!
It is a hilly course with 12 large and small ponds on a site with an elevation change of 8m. The fairways are wide, allowing you to play freely from the tee, but the strategically placed ponds prevent easy passage to the greens. The greens have subtle undulations, and your putting will largely determine your score. In the outbound nine, watch for the 4th hole - a short hole surrounded by water. In the inbound nine, watch for the 9th hole which had a creek running along the left side of the fairway. Holes 12, 14, 16, and 18 require accuracy in both distance and direction.
Includes shared cart with caddie.
