Golfers
Today we play the Grand Course at Golf de Saint-Germain, which was designed by Henry Shaplan-Colt in 1922 and is ranked #5 in France. Our France 2024 guests described the lovely parkland course that flows through avenues of majestic trees as “challenging, but very satisfying”. Saint-Germain is a thinking golfer's course where one must plot one’s way carefully, avoiding the strategically placed bunkers and the trees that line every fairway and shelter every green.
Non-Golfers
We’ll visit the Musée de l’Orangerie, which houses 8 Nymphéas (Water Lily) murals by Monet, inspired by the flower garden and water lily pond he created at Giverny, as well as an outstanding collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art by Marie Laurencin, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Rousseau and others.
Optional afternoon tour of flagship luxury boutiques in Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, such as Dior, Chanel, and Hermès.

This evening, join your hosts for dinner (at your own expense) at L’Auberge, the estate’s chic bistro. As noted in the Michelin Guide, “L’Auberge offers refined, seasonal dishes that celebrate the Loire Valley’s culinary heritage, honoring local producers such as vegetable farms in Mont-Près-Chambord, strawberries from Sologne, and Roi Rose pork loin from Touraine, expertly roasted over the open wood fire that takes pride of place in the dining room.”

After checking out, we’ll head to Fontevraud for the next four nights, with a stop along the way to explore the historic royal town of Loches, one of France’s most beautifully preserved medieval towns.
We’ll enjoy a private tour of the magnificent Fontevraud Abbey, where centuries-old walls and quiet cloisters hold echoes of a profound past. As we explore, guests will uncover stories of visionary leadership by the remarkable Abbesses who once ruled here, and of the legendary Plantagenet family members—King Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Richard the Lionheart—who found their final resting place within these sacred grounds. History comes alive here, offering a glimpse into the Abbey’s extraordinary legacy and the lives woven into its story.
Our hotel, Fontevraud L’Hermitage, holds a prestigious Michelin Guide rating, known for its distinct character and charm. The hotel offers an unique vantage point on this historical treasure. Rooms are located in the Saint-Lazare priory, formerly the home of a community of nuns, a short walk away from the main property, giving guests the ability to also explore the grounds without the crowds, early in the morning or in the evening.
The hotel’s award-winning, sleek contemporary design honours the historical heritage of the rooms, with clean lines and understated elegance that invites guests to experience pure essentials. Luxury here is subtle, revealed through refined details and high-quality materials.

We’ll meet up this evening at the Michelin-starred Fontevraud Le Restaurant for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to partake in an haute cuisine dinner by Chef Thibaut Ruggeri, winner of the Bocuse d’Or international gastronomic competition in 2013. A champion of good food and biodynamic farming, local produce and vegetables harvested from the Abbey’s garden take pride of place in a menu that changes every 29 and a half days in keeping with the rhythm of the moon.

This fortress is steeped in history, including connections to the Knights Templar, the famed Catholic military order from the Crusades. Most notably, in 1429, Joan of Arc met with the dauphin, Charles VII, here and inspired him to rise against the English to reclaim his throne.
